Deacons Ministry

What do Deacons do?

The appointment of Deacons marked one of the early examples of “division of labor” in the church. Paul later pictured the church as the Body of Christ – one body with various inter-connected parts, each using the unique gifts that it brings. Read I Corinthians 12 for this insightful understanding of how the church functions.

Deacons represent the gift for caring and serving. They are not to be the only care givers and servers in the church, of course, but they are called to lead the entire congregation in its ministry of sympathy and service in the church and in the community.

The Book of Order outlines the duties and responsibilities of Deacons. Within the guidelines set forth in the Book of Order, the Board of Deacons is free to interpret its call to service as it sees fit.
At Dutch Neck, Deacons are presently involved in a number of different kinds of service.

Deacons’ meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of the month (November we meet on the third Wednesday and there is no meeting in July) at 7:30 p.m. Special meetings may be called by the moderator as needed.

Here’s how you can help the Deacons!

  • Participating in the Children’s Home Society projects.

  • Fill a backpack for back to school

  • Christmas gifts for a needy child.

  • Provide an Easter basket

  • Provide baked goods for funerals.

  • Help host a funeral reception, set up or clean up.

  • Volunteer to visit elderly and home bound members

Highlight: Community Outreach Projects

The Children’s Home Society – The generosity of the congregation has made several annual projects very successful and provide happiness to many of the children supported by the Children’s Home Society. On a typical year, church members contribute filled back-to-school backpacks for 75 children, and Christmas presents for 100 children.

The Board of Deacons wish to thank the members of the congregation and visitors for their continued generosity and support.
