Habitat for Humanity’s Unity Build October 1

We met on a rainy morning to learn about how the Unity Build system would work and dedicate ourselves to working for a Habitat family. In the rainy parking lot the dozen teams found buckets of tools and a wall assignment. Each frame had a unique number and a page that listed the necessary lumber and a diagram of how that lumber fit together. The wall’s base plate and top plate were labeled with the wall’s number and the exact spot where each type of stud was to be nailed in. Other lengths of lumber were stacked in labeled piles nearby. We laid out the lumber, hammered it flush and tight, and called for an inspection. When the wall was approved we labeled the 4 outer pieces clearly. Part of the team carried the wall to a growing pile while another person handed in the signed instructions and received a page for our next wall. Soon after lunch our 106 wall frames were loaded onto trucks and driven to Academy Street in Hightstown, where they will be assembled into a Habitat house. God bless this house!
